Any web developer who hasn't been following Google's Academy courses has really been missing out! Google is promoting their technologies by rolling out "courses" for developers to take and learn more about it. It obviously makes sense for Google to this; the better we developers know Google technologies, the better we are to use them and, in turn, have our clients use AdWords. So a few weeks ago, Gmail started rolling out a new style of mailbox featuring Inbox "Tabs". These tabs by default filter your e-mails into 3 categories, Primary, Social and Promotions. While most "power users" panned the change, I can see the benefit of the tabs. I like to keep my inboxes squeaky clean, but if you get a ton of e-mails a day and sign up for a lot of newsletters, your inbox can get cluttered fast. Google uses its algorithms to split your inbox and move social media e-mails and newsletters into their own tabs.   OK...

A Sweet Gift from Miriam's Heart

  Last year, I partnered with a wonderful charity called Miriam's Heart. They provide advice and resources for those looking to learn more about the adoption process. On behalf of Sites Done Right, LLC, I teamed up with Jimmy Mancusi to redesign and redevelop the website. In 2007, I created and uploaded a "Rick Roll" video. What's that you ask? It was one of the first viral video memes in which there would be a link like this: "Wow, this is so cool!" and then you'd click it to get greeted by the beautiful baritone voice of 80's pop star, Rick Astley. My video was a variation. It was a How To video and then, out of nowhere, I spliced in the Rick Astley singing "Never Gonna Give You Up" music video with his rad denim jacket and sweet 1987 dance moves.   Just look at how cool this guy is... Don't judge me. This was 2007.....

If you look through the full list of HTTP status codes, you'll see one that really stands out: "418: I'm a teapot". So what's that all about? I'll explain in a bit. But first, a really quick introduction on status codes. Whenever any page or file is accessed on your site (whether it’s a user accessing it in a browser or a search engine crawling a page), your server returns an HTTP status code in response to the request and it provides information about the status.
